Welcome to CAHU.org
The California Association of Health Underwriters (CAHU) is the state's largest association for health insurance agents, brokers and other professionals. Our members help millions of Californians find, purchase and use their health care coverage, resulting in greater health and financial security. We recognize the health care system can be overwhelming for consumers who interact with it only occasionally. Through education and training programs, we enhance the ability of our membership to provide better and more complete service. Through our members’ community and political involvement we seek to improve communities throughout California.

What Members Say About Us
Membership in CAHU and NAHU can provide rewarding educational and networking experiences if your involvement is limited to attending local chapter meetings. Beyond this, however, the experience of being involved with the local chapter and CAHU on a Board of Directors or a committee provides a special enhancement to the role of being a health insurance agent. Every agent should have the opportunity expand and defend a career choice in the face of public and governmental perceptions. Deep involvement with CAHU and NAHU shapes what you think and, ultimately, enhances your value to your clients.

In these uncertain times, CAHU keeps me informed and champions our cause in Sacramento. It's also a wonderful opportunity to network and solidify relationships with carrier broker representatives.

I have been a member of CAHU for about 20 years and the organization has been a source of Education and for many long-standing relationships that still exist today. There is also no other organization that specifically exists to keep agents like myself in business.

I'm proud to be a member of CAHU as they are right beside us in meeting the goals of the customers we serve. Our goal is to be the foremost provider of insurance and related services and to do so with the upmost in ethical behavior. CAHU's goals are similar to ours and CAHU helps us get to our end result; serve the client, educate the client, and provide coverage for more Californians. In addition, CAHU keeps in the forefront of legislation, both in keeping us informed and as a presence at the Capital.

CAHU membership keeps me up to date with industry and political changes vital to our industry, which enables me to better communicate with my clients. CAHU provides legislative support enabling us to strike down those forces that want to get rid of our industry and turn us into a socialistic state.

CAHU membership represents the advocacy of our industry to legislators who want to do the right thing but don't understand the situation.

To me, CAHU means business survival. I view my association with CAHU as a commitment to professionalism and an investment in my business. CAHU not only helps to keep me informed of critical issues facing our business, they also work with local and national representatives to keep agents like me as a part of the delivery system. CAHU also provides me with a variety of ideas to help my grow my business and better serve my clients. Anyone who earns a penny form the sale of health insurance or related products is foolish NOT to be a member of CAHU.

My CAHU membership allows me to connect with my peers in the Health Insurance Industry like no other association can. I work for a carrier, so of course I get a huge amount of valuable health insurance information from them. However, CAHU and specifically LAAHU keeps me up to date on the industry as a whole.

- Networking with other dedicated insurance professionals.
- Legislative information and advocacy.
- Sales ideas and sales conferences.
- Dedication to our profession.

To be truthful, I don't attend all that many CAHU functions but I do feel like my membership fees are contributing toward the funds needed to be represented. Every insurance agent/broker should be a part of the organization.

CAHU membership to me means the ability to have a voice in Sacramento and Washington DC, and the opportunity to be at the table when critical policy decisions are being made that affect our industry and our clients. It also means access to top-notch education and networking events, and the chance to share ideas with other top professionals who want to give back to their industry.

I am a new member to CAHU. In this first 3 months of membership, I have already gained a much deeper understanding of the legislative issues that are presented to our community. I appreciate the ongoing insight of the network and strongly recommend membership to anyone in the healthcare industry.

If it wasn't for the legislative activity of CAHU, I would be out of business. CAHU has done a great job of getting our view of health care reform to our State and National government officials. CAHU has helped preserve the agent community's jobs, by making the government aware of our value to the citizens of California.

If you are not supporting your business by being involved and supporting legislation that insures our jobs, you should consider other work. Everyone who is concerned about their own job is involved in their industry's association. CAHU is our association. Big Labor has the unions, we have our associations. CAHU stands up for what we do everyday.

Membership, first and foremost is staying on top of important, as well as not so important, legislative issues. The networking is great (and fun) for chatting with vendors, however they do visit our office. And education is vital, the speakers always bring issues to the forefront, as well as providing CE units.

I would have to say that CAHU has kept me in tune with what is going on in State legislature as well as on a Federal level. Knowing what is happening takes some of the pressure off the constant negative news that is being spread through the media. Along with the informative meetings and programs that continue throughout the year.

My CAHU membership gives me the ability to interact with the finest agents in our field. To network with them, learn from them, and enjoy the privilege of their friendship. Beyond that, CAHU is my voice in Sacramento, constantly working to preserve our private-market based healthcare system, and the agents & brokers that make it work. CAHU is made up of the finest professionals I know of, and I am honored to be among them.

Personal membership in CAHU means that I have a voice with the politicians who govern the health care industry. As an individual agent I have no voice but as a member of SVAHU/CAHU/NAHU my voice is heard and our careers are more secure because we have representation within our local, state and federal political systems.

I never knew how important my CAHU membership was to me until my employer, in leaving the California market, opted not to renew it on my behalf in 2007. It was only then that I realized how much I took for granted all the information, education, advocacy, and professional bonding that comes along with my membership. So much so that I renewed it on my own later that year! Now I know how much I value being a part of CAHU!

I could not be where I am or have raised a family like I did, or look forward to as bright a future without the health insurance industry being as it is and has been for the past 23 years for me. I do not want to go to any meetings or meet other members per se, but there is no question about my duty, responsibility and debt of gratitude to join the association.

Here is why I am a member - No man or woman is an island. We have an amazing industry and to provide the highest level of expertise to my clients I need to associate with professionals who are always learning, always ethical and always interested in sharing their knowledge. In health underwriters I have the opportunity to develop the kind of relationships that enhance my value as an agent. And the icing on the cake is we all have a great deal of fun with each other!

CAHU brought me a professional community when I was new in the business. I found I could turn to other brokers and general agents for answers, mentorship and support. My colleagues see my success as their success. Our association has a "we are one" mentality that not only supports me unconditionally, but provides me with a network of fellow professionals who I proudly consider friends.

I just joined CAHU at Warnerfest in Orange County. So here are my reasons for joining. There was a contribution made towards membership by Warner Pacific and after being in the industry for close to 5 years and with some much at stake right now, I thought it was time to get involved in another aspect of our industry.

In this unpredictable political climate, CAHU is the only organization representing the interests of the health agent, not only in Sacramento and Washington, but to the public. The stories of our accomplishments in serving the public must be told, and CAHU is uniquely positioned to do it.

My NAHU/CAHU membership protects my job and our industry. We have people working with our legislators in Sacramento and in Washington DC to make sure that the legislators understand what it is the we as brokers do to help their constituents along with what the cause and affect is to any bill they want passed. Legislators do not understand our industry and want/need our help.

I joined and have remained a member for two main reasons. First to be kept up to date on what is happening to our business in the legislature and secondly what is happening in our business overall. I also have been glad that I have been able to address my concerns to our government officials through our Associations efforts and programs.

My CAHU membership is important to me because it keeps me current on Legislation and what's going on in our industry. If my dollars can help pay for our lobbyists to fight for our causes, then it's worth it to me. It's nice to network with folks but I find value in the publications I receive and information I receive over email.

My GGAHU, CAHU, NAHU Membership means that when I am talking to a prospective or current client, I am able to articulate why government should not be in the Health Insurance Business. I am able to articulate on how I am their advocate to legislatures and insurance carriers. And I am up to date on new products, the laws that impact those new products ~ I am their resource because I belong to the only Association for Health Insurance Professionals.

I, Terry Lee Ives, have been selling health insurance for 48 years. Belonging to OCAHU/CAHU is a must to support positive health insurance issues, meet other agents to learn, learn, learn about their opinions and experiences, and to see and meet the insurance company's representative to understand their viewpoint. Every agent who belongs to us it a step ahead or higher up the professional chair for our career. I feel humbled to be a part.

My CAHU membership has meant a lot to me over the past 20 years. The legislative advocacy is vital, and the educational opportunities are incredible, but for me, the MOST valuable part of my membership has been the networking with all of the wonderful CAHU and NAHU members. I am a solo practitioner, and it is great to be able to call a fellow member with a question or bounce ideas off them without feeling like a "competitor." ...CAHU rocks!

I enjoy the fellowship at our luncheons and the sharing of sales and service ideas. But more important are the updates on what's happening with the various bills that affect our businesses. Operation Drumbeat really enhances my ability to speak to our elected officials.

My CAHU membership makes me a better broker. Because of my involvement with CAHU's lobbying I am familiar with legislation as it is moving through the legislature, and it gives me a structure within which I am always ahead of the pack in regulatory market knowledge. I enjoy the opportunity to know my colleagues, how they run their agencies and to have resources as we face challenges. I greatly value the opportunity to fund the mechanism that keeps health care financing privatized and I truly get back far more than the value of the time I put in.

What my membership means to me is Education (C.E.'s) and a paid Lobbyist looking out for me in Sacramento and Washington on bills that could effect my business. Being able to get together with other agents around the corner and across the country to learn sales, customer service and claim ideas.

What I've gotten out of my Health Underwriters membership that has been the most helpful is the legislative awareness of the potential changes in our industry in California. I've met some nice people, learned a few things, but you can do that in a lot of places. CAHU bringing that legislative piece, keeping us up to date and giving us the tools to write to Sacramento has been great. I know I wouldn't have had the time to look for it.
